Co-founded by public school teachers and friends Marilyn Polin, Steve Mitchell and Linda Emm, Ridge ARTS was an in-depth approach to arts education. Through Ridge ARTS, selected students were given the opportunity to realize their fullest potential. This was accomplished by using a two-hour block of the school day which permitted sufficient time to explore and grow. All three areas (music, drama, art) met in the same time block, allowing for shared experiences between disciplines. Students were accepted on an audition only basis and had to maintain acceptable levels of academic performance in all other subjects.
Purpose: "Ridge ARTS will provide intensive exposure to the arts for selected Cutler Ridge Middle School students to foster personal growth and exploration. Students will gain experience in their chosen discipline through skill development, performance, showcasing, and collaboration. Students will explore other areas of the creative arts in order to enhance understanding of their respective studies. Ridge ARTS will serve as a resource center for the entire school, presenting the arts as they relate to cross curriculum needs." |
