Arts & Spirituality Retreat |
This Retreat is a way to showcase artists in your group/church and the larger community that capitalizes on their teaching skills and creates opportunities for others to share and learn from their process. In our development, we identified artists in the church: musicians, painters, dancers, cooks and bakers, jewelry makers, writers, photographers, flower arrangers, the works! Those interested in teaching propose a 90 minute activity they can lead for a small group - connecting it in someway with their spirituality. As most any artist can tell you, that is not a difficult task. In fact, how can one be more connected, more attuned to the Creator than through the act of creating? Artists in the City with the skills to lead large group activities are identified and hired for sessions in dance/movement, craft arts, group singing, drumming and the like. Performing artists are also hired to present mini-concerts during the weekend. Food is prepared by volunteer cooks, and often by participants in the cooking classes. |
The weekend looks like this:
Friday - gathering reception, followed by a concert/performance from area artist(s). Dinner is served, followed by large group activities, e.g. craft art, dance or movement session, community sing. Saturday - A light breakfast is followed by a group warm-up (something from the night before), then participants move to their choice of small group sessions. Lunch and a concert are followed by an afternoon of large and small group activities until all come together with what they have created and learned for a showcase & closing worship. This concept works beautifully in a corporate or educational setting and has been adapted by other organizations in the region to build interpersonal connections and enhance creativity within the team.
