The church and my faith have been an important part of my life and it has been a privilege to serve in the music of the church, in differing capacities, since I was 10 years of age. From children's choir, to Youth choir, to the adult choir, and finally directing church choirs of my own, I have been able to live out my faith through music & art. My approach to this musical & spiritual life has been founded on the belief that music & art are windows to the presence of the Creator. As we continue the work of creation in our respective arts, we have an obligation to open as many "windows" as possible to the light and love of our Creator God. Whether that is manifest in the music we select, the cultures we represent, the art we see or the times we "dance before the Lord", it is our responsibility to aspire to the highest quality and integrity of expression possible.
So how can we do it all? We can't! It is our task - our calling - to gather other people and their gifts, inspire them to see their roles and opportunities, give them room to grow, and then let them soar. Offering outlets for creative expression, ensemble participation, spiritual and artistic exploration, and community gatherings such as concert and worship events builds community and opens ever more "windows" for all to experience the light of God and the love of one another. Check out some examples below. Then see where the Spirit takes you and your gifts next... |
